Patsy Lynn Simpson

            Patsy Lynn Rifenberg Simpson, 81, of Amarillo, passed away on August 26, 2023. Pat was born September 22, 1941 in Perryton, Texas to Leland and Velma Rifenberg. They moved to Amarillo in 1954. Pat graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1960. She married James Simpson on October 26, 1960 and they were married almost 63 years. They had four children in Amarillo. In 1973, they moved the family to north of Canyon, where they built a home in White Fence Farms and raised their family there until they all graduated from Canyon High School. Pat worked for Canyon ISD at Rex Reeves Elementary and also at Neblett Clinic while James worked for the Canyon Post Office delivering mail.

            She was predeceased by her parents, siblings, and one grandchild. Survivors include husband James of the home; daughter Pam Buchly and husband Dan of Amarillo; sons Tom Simpson and wife Gail of Amarillo, Ed Simpson and wife Sherry of Weatherford, Texas, and Byron Simpson and wife Dana of White Deer, Texas; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

            Pat was an excellent cook - known for her deviled eggs. She was a wonderful wife and loving mother, and she loved spending time with her family, working word search puzzles in her chair, a.k.a. her “happy place”, and playing games with the grandkids. Pat loved animals, especially dogs.
